The Tale of the Three Brothers
Long ago, three brothers were traveling at dusk and came to a dangerous river. They used magic to build a bridge to cross it, but were stopped by Death. Angry that he had failed to claim their lives, Death pretended to congratulate them and promised to grant each a wish as a reward.
He desired an "unbeatable wand," so Death made th
】e Elder Wand (also known as the "Deathstick") from a yew tree. The eldest brother won countless duels with it, but was soon murdered for showing off, and the wand changed hands. Death took his life.
He wanted the "power to recall the dead," so Death gave him the Resurrection Stone. The second brother used it to summon his deceased lover, only to find her painful and out of place in the living world. Overcome by despair, he committed suicide. Death triumphed again.
The humblest of the three, he asked for something "to evade Death's pursuit." Reluctantly, Death gave him the Invisibility Cloak. The youngest brother remained hidden until old age, when he willingly took off the cloak, greeted Death like a friend, and passed away peacefully.
The relics of the three brothers (the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Invisibility Cloak) are known as the "Deathly Hallows." Legend has it that whoever unites all three becomes the "Master of Death."
Dumbledore believed the three brothers were based on the Peverell family ( as a descendant of Ignotus, inherited the Invisibility Cloak). Voldemort pursued the power of the Elder Wand, while ultimately united all three Hallows but chose to renounce their power—a symbol of coming to terms with death. Thus, we have created mugs themed around the three brothers, inviting you to revisit attitudes toward death: Greed and escape lead to failure, while only embracing death (like Ignotus) brings true peace.
Note: The term "painful" in the original text was retained in Chinese due to potential ambiguity in direct translation; it can be adjusted to "agonized" or "tormented" based on context.
